Harahan Pump to the River Pump Station

A part of one of SELA’s most ambitious projects to date, the 1,200 cubic feet per second pumping station was advertised and then awarded in September of 2011. Construction of the station is nearing completion and is scheduled for completion in late 2016. The new pumping station is located near Mounes St. and Hickory Ave. and will pump water from the Soniat Canal into the Mississippi River. The entire Pump to the River Project is scheduled to be finished in mid-2017. Estimated Cost of the Pump Station: $33 million.

Harahan Pump to the River North Discharge Tubes

This project consists of installing 1,709 feet of three 84” diameter discharge pipes from the pumping station to the “Old Dickory” oak tree. All discharge pipes have been installed and roadway restoration is ongoing.Estimated Cost: $11.5 million.

This project consists of installing 4,475 feet of three 84” diameter discharge pipes from the “Old Dickory” oak tree to Jefferson Highway. This project is scheduled for completion in late 2016.
Estimated Cost: $24.7 million.

Harahan Pump to the River Intake Canal

A 689-foot reinforced concrete box culvert canal is being built from Soniat Canal to the pumping station. This project is scheduled for completion in late 2016. Estimated Cost: $10.8 million.

Harahan Pump to the River Levee Crossing and Discharge Basin

This project segment will construct three 84-inch diameter discharge pipes extending 2,050 feet from Jefferson Highway to the Mississippi River. It includes a realignment of the main line levee, installation of the discharge pipes and a discharge basin at the Mississippi River. Construction started in March 2013. This project is scheduled for completion in early 2017. Estimated Cost: $27 million.

Soniat Canal

Soniat Canal (West Metairie Ave. to Lester Ave.) recently completed.

Construction of approximately 450 linear feet of modified trapezoidal concrete channel between Lester Avenue and West Metairie and replacement of the westbound West Metairie Avenue Bridge. Construction began in December 2013 and was completed in May of 2016. Estimated Cost: $8.1 million.

Industry Canal Improvements

Project consists of canal improvements from Bayou Oakwood to Outfall Canal and includes removal of three, 96-inch reinforced concrete arch pipes and installing 3,050 linear feet of 42-foot-wide U-frame section. This project began in July 2012 and is scheduled to be complete in fall of 2016. Estimated Cost: $19.7 million.

Gardere (Phase III) & Murphy Canal (Phase I)

Project consists of drainage improvements (slope grading and slope paving) to the Gardere and Murphy Canals from the south side of Martin Luther King Playground to near Boomtown Casino. The approximate length of improvements is 12,500 linear feet. This project began in October 2012 and is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2016. Estimated Cost: $25.7 million.

Project consists of drainage improvements (slope grading and slope paving) from approximately Boomtown Casino to Bayou Barataria. The approximate length of improvements is 3,200 linear feet. The project has been awarded and excavation work has begun. Construction is scheduled to be complete in late 2015.  Estimated cost: $4.6 million

Project consists of canal improvements (slope grading and slope paving) from Bayou Fatima to Bayou Barataria. When the project is complete, the canal will have 7,500 linear feet of trapezoidal section with a bottom width between 60 and 70 feet and a top width of approximately 155 feet. This project began in September 2012 and is scheduled to be complete in early 2017. Estimated Cost: $22.2 million.

Two Mile (Patriot) Canal (Phase II)

This project consists of building 2,670 linear feet of a 25-foot to 38-foot-wide “U” frame section from Barataria Boulevard to Allo Street and constructing three bridges in that section of canal. The three bridges at John Ehret School and Allo Street will be replaced with box culverts. This project began in March 2011 and was completed at the end of 2014. Estimated Cost: $21.6 million.

Justice Canal / Oil Company Canal

Project consists of a combination of 4,625 linear feet of earthen trapezoidal channel and 4,705 linear feet of concrete-lined trapezoidal channels. This project began in June 2011 and was completed at the end of 2014. Estimated Cost: $14.9 million.
